I went to a wedding last weekend, and I’d learned a hard lesson from my 40th birthday (remember when I had a meltdown on IG bc nothing fit? That was fun.) that it is not easy to find dressy clothing that fits my body well, and that tailoring is probably my best bet if I want to feel comfortable. So I bought this dress, and tried on about 10 others, months ago, to try to find one I felt good in. I strongly feel that when you like what you’re wearing and you feel good in it, you feel more confident. Anyway, I wound up loving this cut so much. My struggle has been that I’ve put on muscle through my upper back and legs/glutes, but my waist has somewhat stayed the same. So my normal size is too small for my hips and chest but one size bigger is too loose for my waist. So I got one size bigger and had it tailored.
Since I wear leggings and sweatpants for work (and honestly, outside of work too haha), it’s hard for me to find “real” clothing I feel comfortable in. I loved the gathering at the waistline because it gave me a little bit of definition at the waist/hips without feeling constricting. There was a slit up the side of the leg so I could walk comfortably, and most importantly, dance. The halter style top portion felt flattering and I liked the cowl neck because it felt formal and appropriate for the occasion, but not stiff or constricting.
I got the YSL shoes secondhand from The RealReal and they were so comfortable. I used these for the undergarment up top, and this undergarment was the best for bottoms. They are smoothing and have just the right amount of compression so you feel held in but not at all uncomfortable. Below are some other wedding guest dress ideas, in case you’re looking.
