Join us for a Wellness and Adventure Retreat in beautiful Kenya!

Dates: Land in Nairobi on July 28, 2024 at anytime, and book your return flight for August 2, 2024, ideally in the evening after 6pm.

Description: This is a once in a lifetime, nearly all-inclusive trip for the adventure-seekers, the go-with-the-flow types, the people who are ready to do something big and bold! Think of this retreat as a vacation with a side of wellness in the form of a mobility/yoga/fitness class once a day. We get a lot of questions about how “advanced” you have you be to join this retreat, and the answer to that is, you don’t have to be advanced at all! We welcome total newbies, beginners, intermediate, advanced, - everyone is welcome. This is about a week of great fun with awesome, likeminded people, exciting adventure, delicious food and drink, exploring the beautiful conservancy to see the animals, and a little bit of optional movement each day to feel great. A typical day looks like this:

  • 6:30am - Early morning game drive to see the animals

  • 9:00am - Gourmet breakfast out on the plains, surrounded by elephants and giraffes in the distance

  • 10am - Movement class with mobility and fitness with resistance band work

  • 12pm - Siesta and relaxation

  • 2pm - Four course lunch at the cottages

  • 4pm - Evening drive and sundowners (the African version of happy hour - but on the open plains)

  • 8pm - Four course dinner at the cottages

What’s included:

  • Airport pick up in Nairobi

  • Hotel accommodation in Nairobi on night 1

  • Hotel transfer with the group to Ol Pejeta, the conservancy where we’ll be for the week

  • Four night cottage accommodation

  • All meals and alcoholic drinks at the cottages starting with lunch on the first full day, and ending with breakfast on the last day.

  • All movement classes

  • Laundry service

What’s not included: Flights, visa (about $50, can be purchased here), travel insurance, meals on the day you land in Nairobi, tips for your game driver and cottage staff (We recommend you budget about $200 total for tips), optional massage and you may want to bring some extra cash for any souvenirs you’d like to bring home.

How does it all go down? You get yourself to Nairobi, landing anytime on July 28, 2024. A professional driver will pick you up and bring you to our hotel in Nairobi where you can enjoy a hot shower, order some dinner, workout or use the pool, maybe book a massage, and have a good night’s sleep. The next morning, we will all meet at breakfast at the hotel, and we’ll eat before we depart together around 8:30am. The trip to Ol Pejeta Conservancy is about three or four hours, and the drive there is truly amazing. We’ll stop along the way for bathroom breaks, snacks and souvenirs - bring some cash for that. Once we arrive to the conservancy gate, we’ll switch vehicles and get into our Land Cruisers for the week and meet our guides. These guides will be with us the entire week, and you’ll become fast friends with yours. We’ll make our way across the plains to get to our cottages - and you’ll surely stop along the way to see zebra, giraffe, water buffalo, lions and who knows what else! That’s the beauty of it - you never know what you might see! Once we arrive to the cottages, we’ll be greeted by Andy and Sonia, our hosts for the week. They’ll give us the rundown on the cottages, and introduce us to the small staff at the cottages- our chef, the butlers, wait staff, guards (there are lions around, after all!), and more. Everyone is so lovely, and again - you’ll make fast friends! We typically take some time to freshen up and then have lunch, do an evening game drive to see more animals, followed by a Sundowner (basically like a happy hour but on the plains! In Kenya! With animals all around!) and then we go back to the cottages for a shower and dinner and bedtime. As you can see, we pack a lot into each day - and it can be tiring, especially because during midday, the sun can be intense (we’re on the equator, after all) - so it’s perfectly fine if anyone decides to opt out of anything! You can rest instead of participating in any of the group activities. You can take your dinner or breakfast in your own room, if you’d like. You’re welcome to completely customize this trip to be exactly what you need!

Who comes? We have had solo travelers come, mothers & daughters, friends come together, siblings, and couples. All are welcome! Because we only advertise on our Instagram, website and newsletter, everyone who joins is typically of the same mindset - just some good, kind, open minded, health conscious people who are looking for a nice week of vacation with a side of movement.

Where do we stay?: We will stay in these gorgeous cottages that sit right on the edge of the conservancy. We describe them as "glamping, heavy on the glam", but we have been told time and again that we are really underselling it. You’ll get electricity, hot running water, a very comfortable bed in the room of your choosing, private en suite bathroom in each room that is beautifully appointed, complete with shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Each cottage has an oversized main living area with a fireplace, comfortable couches, a kitchen table, and all rooms have an oversized veranda that looks right out onto the plains. It is normal to see elephants right from your room! The last time I was there, a lion was on the property roaring at 6am! It’s truly a WILD experience unlike any other.

Additional Info:

  • Vaccines and Meds: Before traveling, you should talk with your doctor about necessary vaccinations and anti-malaria medication. As of 6.21.23, Kenya currently requires either proof of COVID vaccination or a negative PCR test as a requirement for entry within 72hrs of departure. Kenya is known to abruptly change their entry requirements, so check online first. While we are too high up in elevation for mosquitos to be around at the cottages themselves, Nairobi is known to have mosquitos and we strongly recommend taking anti-malaria pills for the duration of your trip. You can read all requirements here. We personally do not take anything else or get any other shots, but you can speak with your doctor and decide what is best for you.

  • Payment Plans: Payment plans are available, but require a non-refundable $500 deposit upon reservation, and must be paid in full by May 1, 2024, and are subject to an additional $100 fee per payment installment. When you reserve your spot, a form will pop up and within that form you’ll be asked to propose a payment plan (monthly payment, bi-weekly, whatever you like- it just needs to be paid in full by May 1, 2023).

  • Cancellation Policy: Cancellation due to documented COVID travel restrictions (ie: border closures of departure or arrival countries, or cancelled flight due to covid) will result in full refund, less bank charges. Note that this does not include you contracting COVID and being unable to attend - for that reason, we require purchase of travel insurance that would cover your getting ill.

  • Water: Tap water is generally untreated in Kenya, and therefore it is recommended to drink from sealed water bottles, which will be available to you for purchase at the airport and at the hotel, and will be provided throughout the duration of your stay at the cottages. Water is precious in Kenya - please take care to only use what you need, and avoid taking unnecessarily long showers.

  • Internet and Cell: You will have wifi and cell service in the Nairobi hotel on night one. There is now apparently cell service while on safari, although in the past couple times we have gone, the service has been spotty but usually okay enough to bring a hot spot and use it for wifi if needed.

  • Money: Cash is best, but we suggest bringing smaller bills, and take a good look at your bills to ensure they are crisp, newer than 2003, and not overly wrinkly or ripped, as the latter will generally not be accepted. You may want to change a little bit of money ($100 or so?) to Kenyan Shillings at the airport just so you have both currencies on hand. Visa and MasterCard are the most widely accepted credit cards, but note they are typically only accepted at major hotels (like the one we’ll be staying in on night one), and very few other places.

  • Tipping: The tips for your driver and our hotel staff is not included, so please bring that in cash. We recommended $5 - $10 per day for your guide, and $5 - $10 per day for the staff as a whole. It’s also recommended to have a few $1 bills as tips for your porters.

  • Flights: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport lies on the edge of Nairobi and receives most international flights. International departure taxes are US$30 and domestic departure taxes are $5. These are normally included in your flight ticket, but it is best to carry the extra with you just incase.

  • Safety: For the majority of your trip, you will be enjoying Kenya’s rich wildlife, and although you may be in close proximity to them, it is imperative that you respect your guide’s judgement with regards to proximity and never insist that the vehicle is moved closer. The cottages where we will stay are fenced off, to dissuade big game from entering. Safety precautions will be outlines for you upon arrival and it is imperative that these rules are followed.

  • What to wear in town: There will be a day that we go into town to visit the Spinners and Weavers group of women. It is recommended to avoid wearing top to toe safari gear, as that’ll make you stand out from the crowd more than you already do. Instead, wear loose pants or long skirts, and layered tops. Avoid bringing large cameras, your passport, an exposed money belt, etc.

  • What to wear on safari: Lightweight tops, Lightweight pants or shorts, heavier pants for nighttime (it gets cold once the sun goes down), pj’s, undergarments, workout clothes, scarf and/or sun hat to keep the sun off your face and shoulders (it is very intense during midday), sneakers or hiking boots, sandals, sunglasses, fleece jacket, personal toiletries, antihistamines for any bug bites, malaria tablets, mosquito repellant, sun lotion and chapstick with sunscreen, tissues/wet wipes, eye drops (dust from the plains can irritate the eyes), a small day pack for your game drives, binoculars.
