Home Update
Whew, it’s been a while since I’ve updated my little blog. Last week passed so slowly for me - anyone else? Now that I’m back from Kenya, and don’t have any travel plans until November (eeeek, I can’t wait to share!) - I finally am feeling a little more settled and am slowly working on putting my little house together. I’ve noticed that the more settled I am (i.e. no longer in between dwellings, not traveling), the more my nervous system just feels chilled out and calm…exactly how I want to feel.
On Friday night I went out to dinner, and it was just so fun to get dressed in something that wasn’t leggings or sweatpants and actually do my hair. So yeah, I’m just feeling good these days. I wore this tube top (it’s a skims dupe!), and Zara linen pants (similar).
Facebook Marketplace has become my bff. I check it nearly everyday, looking for various things I need for the house. Part of me loves the thrill of the hunt - much like I enjoy thrift shopping for clothes - and part of me just loves getting a good deal.
Here’s the teeny tiny guest room/office. I wanted to get some sort of guest sleeping situation going, but the room is really small and I have so few guests that I didn’t want a proper bed to take up all the space. I toyed with the idea of a Murphy bed (they’re just sooo pricey, but maybe down the line if the right one comes along), and wound up finding this little pull out couch on Facebook Marketplace from a couple who was moving across the country. It was basically brand new, it has this little slipcover that goes over it, and then it pulls out into a full size bed. The mattress is a pretty decent thickness, and I’ll get a mattress topper to make it even more comfortable. I am now on the hunt for a rug and a perfect size side table that’ll fit between that wall and the side of the couch. And I also need a throw and some pillows as well. Getting all the things I need to make this house feel like a home seems overwhelming, but I’m just trying to do one thing at a time, savory the process, and go slow. All in good time.
The living area also needs some curtains, and a rug. I’m extremely intimidated by trying to figure out curtains, so they’re sort of the last thing on my list right now and I’m instead focusing on the rug. I’m really taking my time finding the right one because a) good, long lasting rugs can be so pricey and b) I have a few more pressing issues I need to handle like having a light/fan combo installed in the bathroom which currently has no fan (so that’s another pricey project, blah). Anyway! I want this rug to have some personality to it - I fell in love with this one, but the reviews weren’t great because the material (viscose) is so fragile.
I did finally get a media console though! I love it.
And my backsplash was finally finished and I had some lighting installed under the cabinets, which makes such a big difference when you’re cooking. I just love all the natural light that shines through in this little house.
Alright. I’m off to the city to get my hair done. Hope you have a beautiful day. <3
